So, I just heard that the MTA is most likely to increase fares from $2.00 to $2.25 by July 2009.  Can you believe that?!!  That’s insane!  Is MTA going to increase fares whenever they can’t meet their budget for the year?!!  What on earth is going on at the MTA?

On the news report (CW 11) that I watched reported that one of the things that MTA could do to find money to meet their budget gap is to sell their property in the city and relocate their offices in Brooklyn or Queens where rents are comparatively less than rents in Manhattan.  What that tells me is that part of my fare goes into MTA’s overhead when it should be used to increase frequency of trains, improving signal systems, cleaning up stations and trains, etc. to name a few things that needs work.

The MTA Board are expected to meet tomorrow and determine if they will increase fares or try to find other ways to fill in their budget gap.  Stay tuned…
