Serenading Sherlock

It was a long day at the office and the “F” train just pulled into the station as I came down the stairs.

The train was basically empty. I took a seat and then a European couple sat adjacent from me. Then a black guy swooped by dressed rather dapperly in a cloak that resembled something I’ve seen on a cover of a Sherlock Holms novel. He offered to play his guitar for the European couple without any financial obligation. They accepted. He strummed his acoustic guitar. He finished his playing upon arriving at the next stop, and asked if they could afford a donation.

They could not and both parties got off the train.
